The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) reported, as covered by The Nation Thailand on 14 October 2026, that Thailand received 23.2 million international visitors between 1 January and 30 September 2026, down 3.8% year-on-year, according to Ministry of Tourism and Sports data for that nine-month period. Foreign tourism revenue for the same January-to-September period fell 2.26% year-on-year to about 1,142.485 billion baht, per the same Ministry figures.

TAT Governor Thapanee Kiatphaibool said the agency is still aiming for roughly 33 million foreign arrivals for the full 2026 year — matching or exceeding the 32.97 million arrivals recorded in 2025 — "provided there are no events or factors beyond our control." Reaching 33 million would require about 9.8 million arrivals in the fourth quarter of 2026, based on the nine-month total reported by the Ministry.

Among Thailand's top source markets for the January-to-September 2026 period, the Ministry of Tourism and Sports data cited by The Nation shows Chinese arrivals rose 15.16% year-on-year to about 3.94 million, while Malaysian arrivals fell 15.19% to about 2.95 million and Indian arrivals fell 2.46% to about 1.73 million over the same nine months. Thapanee said the cumulative year-on-year decline in Middle East arrivals narrowed to 6.5% over the same period, and that the market could return to growth by the end of 2026.

For the same January-to-September 2026 period, the Ministry of Tourism and Sports data also shows Thai residents made 152.44 million domestic trips, up 2.7% year-on-year.
