Riyadh Air's first scheduled service between Riyadh and Bangkok landed at Suvarnabhumi Airport on 3 September 2026. According to the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), the inaugural flight departed King Khalid International Airport at 22.15 hrs on 2 September and arrived at 10.35 hrs the following morning. The flight was received by representatives of the Ministry of Transport, the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, TAT, Airports of Thailand and Riyadh Air.

TAT states that the Riyadh–Bangkok route is Riyadh Air's fourteenth route and is operated with Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft configured with 290 seats. The airline is beginning with three flights per week, departing Riyadh on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays and Bangkok on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, before moving to seven weekly flights in October 2026. At the opening frequency, TAT calculates that the route adds approximately 3,840 inbound seats to Thailand per month.

The context TAT gives is a Saudi market that has softened this year. Thailand recorded 121,907 arrivals from Saudi Arabia in 2026 to date, compared with 142,774 in the corresponding period of 2025 — a decline of 14.62%. TAT describes Saudi visitors as typically staying around 10 to 12 days and spending approximately 110,000 baht per person per trip, with interest concentrated in shopping, beaches, nature, Thai cuisine, medical services and wellness, and with demand spreading beyond Bangkok, Phuket and Pattaya towards Krabi, Phang-nga, Ko Samui and Chiang Mai.

Riyadh Air's own announcement, carried by the Saudi Press Agency on 6 August 2026, set the start of operations at 2 September and confirmed three weekly flights from King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh to Suvarnabhumi Airport in Bangkok.

For Thailand, the route is one more piece of direct long-haul capacity rather than a change in policy. TAT says it is pairing the new connectivity with Muslim-friendly products and services, including halal dining and visitor facilities, and with targeted marketing through digital platforms and online travel agencies.
