Thailand's National Economic and Social Development Council (NESDC) announced on 17 August 2026 that the economy grew 1.9% in the second quarter of 2026, according to reports by The Nation Thailand and Thairath Online, both citing NESDC Secretary-General Danucha Pichayanan at a press briefing. The Nation reports that this compares with 2.8% growth in the first quarter of 2026.

Both outlets report that private investment rose 13.4% in the second quarter and total investment rose 9.1%. The Nation reports that goods exports rose strongly, led by electronics and electrical appliances, and that imports rose faster than exports. Thairath reports that Mr Danucha said the second quarter may prove to be the low point of the year if Middle East tensions do not worsen.

For the full year, both reports put NESDC's 2026 growth forecast at about 2.2%. The Nation gives the range as 2.0% to 2.5%; Thairath gives a wider range of 1.7% to 2.7%. Because the two reports differ on the range, T3 states only the central figure. Risks cited by NESDC, as reported by Thairath, include Middle East tensions, United States trade policies, capital market volatility, possible El Niño effects on agriculture, and high household and SME debt.
