Thailand Welcomes 18.5 Million Visitors Through Early August 2026

Thailand recorded 18,510,243 international tourist arrivals between 1 January and 1 August 2026, generating 896.2 billion baht in tourism revenue, according to Tourism and Sports Minister Surasak Phancharoenworakul. The total represents a 3.19% year-on-year decline, which the Ministry of Tourism and Sports attributed mainly to weaker short-haul arrivals following reports of unrest in Thailand's southern border provinces and a 28.6% year-on-year reduction in airline seat capacity on India-Thailand routes.

China remained Thailand's largest source market with 3,078,486 visitors for the period, followed by Malaysia, India, Russia and South Korea. Even amid the short-haul softness, long-haul markets — particularly Europe — continued to grow, supported by new flight connections including Dubai-Bangkok and Amsterdam-Suvarnabhumi services. In the most recent reporting week alone, Thailand welcomed 567,312 foreign visitors, an average of more than 81,000 arrivals a day.

For a sector recovering unevenly across source markets, the combination of resilient long-haul demand and continued high overall volume — more than 18.5 million visitors in seven months — points to Thailand's enduring position as a global travel destination even through a softer year for short-haul arrivals.
