Thai Women on the Global Stage: Nene Royal, LISA and a New Generation
Inside a single season, a teenage rock guitarist from a Phuket weekend market and a global pop star born in Buriram both stood on the biggest stages their fields offer — and won. Their achievements, alongside a historic Olympic qualification for Thai volleyball, say something larger about what Thai talent, discipline and support can produce when the world is watching.

Music
Nene Royal: From Phuket to AGT Champion
Rattikarn Amloy, known by her stage name Nene Royal, is a 16-year-old guitarist and singer from Phuket who spent years busking at the Naka Weekend Market before stepping onto an American television stage. Her stage name has no connection to Thailand's royal family — it is simply the name she performs under.
Nene auditioned for Season 21 of America's Got Talentin mid-2026 with a cover of The Cranberries' “Zombie.” She advanced through the Judges' Callbacks round and received a Golden Buzzer in the quarterfinals, sending her directly to the final. On 23 September 2026, host Terry Crews announced her as the winner of the season live on NBC — the first Thai contestant to win the show in its history.
Her journey was followed closely at home: Thai broadcaster TrueVisions extended its coverage of the show to support her run, and she was received by Thai government officials in Bangkok during the competition.
Watch the finale performance that capped her season — a cover of The White Stripes' “Seven Nation Army,” performed during the AGT 2026 live final broadcast.

Pop
LISA: Best Pop at the 2026 VMAs
Lalisa Manobal, known professionally as LISA, is a member of the global group BLACKPINK and was born in Buriram province, Thailand. At the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards, held on 27 September 2026 at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, she won Best Pop for her single “Dream.”
The win made her the first Asian solo artist to win the Best Pop category at the VMAs, in a field that included several of pop music's biggest names. Accepting the award, she greeted the audience in Thai before thanking her fans for their support.
Sport
Thai Women Making History in Sport
A few weeks earlier, Thailand's women's national volleyball team wrote its own chapter in the same story of Thai women succeeding on the world stage. On 30 August 2026, the team came back from a 2-1 deficit to beat host nation China 3-2 in the final of the AVC Women's Volleyball Asian Championship in Tianjin, defending the Asian title it had won in 2023.
Under the current qualification system, winning that continental title secured Thailand's place at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games — the first time in the team's history that it has qualified for the Olympics. Setter and team captain Pornpun Guedpard was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player.
Recognition
Lingling Sirilak: A Fan-Voted Moment
Actress Sirilak Kwong, known as Lingling Kwong or Lingling Sirilak, also had a standout 2026: she topped Netizens Choice Magazine's fan-voted online poll for “Most Beautiful Woman Alive 2026” with more than 22 million votes, and separately won the magazine's regional “Most Beautiful Thai Actress 2026” poll.
It is worth being precise about what this recognition is: an open, reader-driven online vote run by an entertainment media outlet — not a government honor, not a film-industry award, and not a title decided by any international adjudicating body. Within that category, though, it reflects genuine and substantial public support for a Thai public figure on a global platform.
Reflection
What These Achievements Mean for Thai Youth
Taken together, these stories are not really about any single trophy. A teenager who taught herself guitar from online videos and performed at a neighborhood night market reached a primetime American stage. A Thai-born artist became part of one of the biggest groups in pop music and then made VMA history. A volleyball team that had never reached the Olympics fought back from the brink to get there.
For young people across Thailand, the throughline is less about fame and more about method: years of unglamorous practice, a willingness to keep performing in small venues long before any big stage appears, and the discipline to keep improving after setbacks. None of these results arrived overnight, and none of them depended on connections or luck alone.
Appreciation
The Families, Teachers, Coaches and Communities Behind Them
None of these achievements happened in isolation. Behind a teenager's audition stand parents, local music venues and the Phuket community that cheered her on long before AGT existed in her plans. Behind a volleyball team's gold-medal run stand national coaching staff, sports federations and years of domestic league competition that few spectators outside Thailand ever see. Behind any Thai performer reaching a global stage stands a wider ecosystem of teachers, trainers and supporters whose names rarely make the headlines.
T3 extends its appreciation to that wider circle — the coaches, music teachers, school programs, sports associations and families across Thailand who make these individual moments of recognition possible.
